It’s almost that time! The leaves are changing color and kids all over are planning out their trick-or-treating routes. With the temperatures dropping, you’re going to be kicking on the heat and if you start hearing scary noises (that aren’t coming from the horror movies on TV) – it’s probably time to call a professional. When the season changes and you switch from utilizing your A/C daily to cranking your heater, it puts more strain on your HVAC system. These are signs that you need to call for HVAC maintenance in Georgetown to save your system from an early grave:
Peculiar noises kick off this list of HVAC red flags. There’s no one particular sound to listen for, as different noises can indicate different possible problems with your system. Troublesome sounds can vary from rattling to clanking, and all can mean different things. If you have been noticing any sounds (old or new) coming from your HVAC system (from your vents or the outdoor unit) give us a call! We’re happy to come out and make sure everything is functioning properly.
Odd smells coming from your HVAC system can, similar to the sounds above, indicate different problems depending on the smell and where it’s coming from. A stale smell could be something as minor as your filter needs to be changed, but on the other hand, a burning smell can mean possible overheating of your system. Other smells that should definitely raise a red flag for you include animal smells (including the smell of a dead animal that may have gotten into your home,) drain odors, or gas odors. If you smell any of these, give us a call – we promise to sort it out ASAP!
If you’re receiving electric bills that are drastically higher than normal for the season – you have a problem. If your system is having to work extra hard to keep your home comfortable, it’s going to run up your utility costs while accumulating more wear and tear. Whether you can tell when you get your electric bill or if you have a smart thermostat that shows you your energy consumption, give us a call if it’s abnormally high for the time of year.
If your heater has been running all day and your home isn’t getting any warmer, something is definitely wrong. Whether your system is blowing tepid air, not warming your entire home, or not working at all – you’ve got a problem on your hands. If your system is blowing cold to room-temperature air (especially if you’re turning your heater on for the first time this fall,) give us a call to make sure no components has gone out since last winter. If warm air isn’t reaching your entire home, you could have a blocked vent or duct leak. If you are experiencing your heater turning on and off constantly, you may have build-up in one of the components of your system or your thermostat could be faulty. If your system has been running all day and you’re still not comfortable with the temperature, it’s time to schedule HVAC maintenance in Georgetown. If you notice anything strange about how your system is running, or your home isn’t as comfortable as it should be – drop us a line!
