4 Best Ways to Boost HVAC Efficiency

At Aero Designed Systems, it’s our mission to provide you with quality air conditioning and heating always – and that includes making sure your system is running as efficiently as possible. Boosting your HVAC’s efficiency will not only improve the airflow and quality in your home but it will also save you money in the long run. In today’s blog, we share the 4 best ways to boost HVAC efficiency.

Change Your Filters

When it comes to boosting your HVAC efficiency, changing your air filters is one of the easiest things you can do and what we recommend you try first! Swing by your closest home improvement store and pick up a new filter – it shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes to change it out. That being said, don’t assume that because it’s an easy fix, it’s not super important. The harder it is for your system to breathe, the harder it is for your system to function – adding more wear and tear to your system and costing you more in utilities. If you’re looking for the best ways to boost HVAC efficiency, start by changing your filters first.

Have Your System Serviced

Before looking into changing or upgrading your current system, we strongly recommend having it serviced. Routine maintenance of your system is the best way to boost your efficiency and increase longevity. It’s natural for your system to get dirty and for small components to be fouled or malfunction. When that happens, it’s likely that your system is either not going to work at all or take twice as much effort to accomplish the same tasks.

If you can’t remember the last time your system was serviced, it’s time to call and make an appointment. Your system should be serviced at least once a year, and it’s ideal that it’s done twice per calendar year. When looking at high-efficiency HVAC options, having your system serviced is one of the best ways to boost your HVAC’s efficiency and save you money as well.

Use a Programmable Thermostat

If you already have a programmable thermostat, we highly recommend using it to schedule your HVAC around your daily habits. Having your thermostat kick on when you’re on your way back from work or lower itself during the hottest parts of the day will prevent you from cranking it on and off when you get home or are hot. Being able to program your HVAC system allows it to turn on and warm up before you even get home, ensuring that it’s running well by the time you walk in the door. This ensures your system isn’t being overworked and can also save you money when you’re not at home.

Upgrade Your System

Last but definitely not least, it’s important to know when your HVAC system is past its prime. If your unit is over 15 years old, it’s more than likely time to consider upgrading your system. While purchasing a new HVAC system can seem more expensive than it’s worth at the time, it will actually save you money down the line as it’ll be much more efficient than your old unit. An old HVAC system can cost you tons in utilities if you keep it for too long. If you’re looking to make your system more efficient, and none of the recommendations above worked for you, we suggest making an appointment to see if it’s time to upgrade your system.

These tips for the best ways to boost your HVAC efficiency will not only increase its efficiency but it’s longevity too. If you have any questions about your current system or if you’d like to explore your options when it comes to upgrading, just give us a call!
