2022 HVAC Summer Checklist

This year’s summer heat has been one of the hottest on record. It is time to check on your HVAC system, and we are here to help! Your HVAC system is one of the only things standing between you and a sweltering home this summer. This HVAC summer checklist will help to ensure your HVAC system is prepared to keep up with these summer temperatures. These tips will make your system’s job easier and help keep your home cool and comfortable!

Change Your Air Filters

It’s important to change your air filters regularly to extend the life of your unit and keep your HVAC system working as efficiently as possible – and it’s one of the easiest things you can do! Depending on your system and the filter you purchase, you should be changing the filter every month or so. If you’d like to learn more about changing your filter, you can check out more information here.

Check Your Weather Stripping and Vents

To maximize the efficiency of air flowing throughout your house, you should check the weather stripping on your doors and windows. You should also check your vents for any build-up of dust and dirt. If the weather stripping in your house appears loose or allows air in or out of your home, it’s time to reach out and have it redone. We also recommend checking all of your vents for a build-up of dust and dirt and cleaning them thoroughly to remove anything that may be clogging them and preventing efficient airflow throughout your home.

Clean the Area Around Your Outdoor Unit

Your outdoor HVAC unit should have at least 2 feet of clearance on all sides of the unit to allow it to operate efficiently and pull air in as easily as possible. We recommend clearing out any debris in the vicinity of the outdoor unit, including branches and any dirt or grass clippings that have accumulated near the unit. This will help your unit more efficiently pull air into your home.

You may have seen air conditioning unit umbrellas swirling around social media this summer. This option will not necessarily help your unit and could cause damage. One thing to consider is that your unit is pushing air out of the top at thousands of feet of air per hour. If that air is hitting anything overhead it will push that heat back down into your unit and could essentially choke it. This could lead to serious issues with the fan motor and the compressor.

Schedule Routine Maintenance

If you can’t remember the last time your system was serviced professionally, or if it was longer than a year ago, it’s time to call for backup! Having your system serviced regularly will keep your system running as efficiently as possible and extend the overall lifespan of your air conditioner. Keep cool this summer all while protecting your investment (your system) – give us a call or contact us here to schedule your routine maintenance appointment.

These record temperatures are crazy, but have no fear!
