What to Do about a broken air condtioner

Broken Air Conditioner? What to Do to Fix It

You get home from a long day at work and you dread the short walk from your car to the front door. It’s been well over 100 degrees for a few days now and you literally could fry an egg on the sidewalk. You brave the searing temperatures and hustle to the front door, ready to feel the refreshing blast of your home’s HVAC system. You cross the threshold, close the door behind yourself, and something is wrong. It’s warm and humid in your home, the temperature is at least 10 degrees higher than you left your thermostat set at. Two things are for certain – your day has been ruined and you’ve got a broken air conditioner on your hands.

Having a broken air conditioner has always been a huge problem, especially if you live in central Texas and the summers seem to be getting hotter and hotter. After getting past the shock of your home being way too warm, what do you do? Aero DS is here to walk you through it!

Call Your Local HVAC Professionals

The first thing you should do once realizing your air conditioner is having problems is to give us call.  The faster we can get out there and take a look, the better!

Compile a List of Symptoms

What tipped you off that something was wrong? Was it just the temperature?  Was it a leak or smell? Odds are that whatever grabbed your attention isn’t the only symptom your system is exhibiting. Inspect your thermostat, both the indoor portion and outdoor portion of your system, and the vents throughout your home. Are there any vents where cool air is still coming out? Is the outdoor portion of your system running while your thermostat isn’t responding? All of this information is extremely useful to us when diagnosing the root of the problem. It’s vital that you only inspect visually and avoid disassembling any portion of the system unless you’re experienced with HVAC repair. You could potentially damage your system further or hurt yourself in the process! If you’re not comfortable looking for red flags yourself, give us a call and skip directly to the next step.

Switch Your System Off

Once you’ve gathered as much information as possible about the potential problem(s) with your system – turn it off! The longer you let your system run while malfunctioning, the higher the chance that additional components are damaged in the process. When it comes to your broken air conditioner, it’s always better to be safe than sorry!

Keep Cool While You Wait

If the temperature in your home is already soaring, open windows and try to promote airflow throughout the house. Once the temperature is in the triple digits, there’s not too much you can do to cool your home down during the heat of the day. If there’s somewhere you can go (a relative’s, a neighbor’s house, the mall, etc.) do that during the hottest part of the day. We do our absolute best to get to your home as quickly as possible but sometimes it can take a few hours.

Help Us Fix that Broken Air Conditioner

When we get to your home, let us know what symptoms you’ve noticed in as much detail as possible. The more information you can provide, the better! Once we get the info and start our work, you’re well on your way back to a cool and comfortable home.

We pride ourselves on bringing total home comfort wherever we go and your residence is no exception! We won’t rest until your home is back to being an oasis from the brutal Texas heat. If you’re having trouble with your system or if you’re dealing with a broken air conditioner – don’t hesitate to give us a call! We’d love to help you out.
