Your air conditioner is one of the biggest investments you can make in your home, whether you’re purchasing a new property or upgrading a long-time home – but is that upgrade worth it? There’s not a simple answer, as it all depends on your specific circumstances, but there are a few things to consider when weighing your options! An air conditioner upgrade can significantly boost your home’s value and keep you cool throughout the year, but it can also save you money on a monthly basis through lower utility bills!
Whether you’re moving into a new property or have owned your home for a while, it’s important to know the age and expected lifespan of your HVAC system so you can accurately anticipate necessary maintenance or upgrades! Generally speaking, modern HVAC systems have a lifespan in the range of 10-15 years. That being said, older systems tend to have shorter lifespans and parts needed for repairs can become quite scarce, making necessary repairs or adjustments quite costly. If your system is nearing the end of it’s expected lifespan, or it’s just getting up there in age and doesn’t seem to be doing the job as well as it once did, it’s time to explore your air conditioner upgrade options!
System inefficiencies aren’t only inconvenient, they cost you money every month! Older air conditioners were much less efficient than what is available today:
In a nutshell, newer systems with a higher SEER rating are much more efficient than systems built even 10 years ago. These modern systems will save you money each month (when compared to the alternative – an older system) and will help pay for themselves over time. If you have any questions about SEER ratings, how much your system is likely costing per month (and if there’s a malfunctioning component, this amount can get out of hand quickly,) or just looking at upgrade options, give us a call!
A malfunctioning system is a major problem for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, if your system is not operating properly, you’re not going to be comfortable throughout the searing heat of the Texas summer. Secondly, if your air conditioner is malfunctioning, it’s very likely that it’s working much harder than usual to try to keep up with hot temperatures outside, driving up your utility bills, and potentially dramatically so. Thirdly, and potentially most vitally, if your system has fouled components or some kind of malfunction, continuing to run your system will likely damage it more with the potential for permanent damage.
Sometimes the cost to repair your older system is close to, if not higher than getting a new system installed. We’ll always bring you all of your options, but it’s key that you call us ASAP once you notice any kind of malfunction – it could save you a significant amount of money!
