If worse comes to worse and you need HVAC emergency service

3 Signs Your A/C Is Struggling | Avoid HVAC Emergency Service

Summer in central Texas is no joke. Whether you’re in Lakeway, Georgetown, or Austin proper, your air conditioner is integral to surviving the summer. Triple-digit temperatures can take a toll on your A/C, especially if your system has not been regularly serviced. The last thing you want in the middle of a heat wave is for your system to go out altogether, resulting in having to call for HVAC emergency service. There are a few signs that may indicate your system is struggling:

Strange or Unfamiliar Noises

Your air conditioner isn’t supposed to be dead silent – but if you notice a new noise (inside or outside your home,) it can indicate that trouble is right around the corner. Your system may make a variety of noises through its life, but the vast majority of sounds are red flags that something either will go out soon or already has been damaged. If you’d like to avoid an HVAC emergency service call, notable sounds to be on the lookout for include:

  • A banging or clanking noise coming from the outdoor portion (AKA the compressor) of your system may mean that a component is unbalanced or out of place.
  • If you’re hearing clicking, an electrical component may be on the fritz.
  • Squealing noises generally mean that a motor is going out.
  • If you hear any excessively loud noise from any part of your system, especially a whistling or shrieking noise – shut your system off immediately and call a professional. This may indicate a coolant leak and/or a buildup of pressure, both of which can be dangerous for you and your family.

Poor Airflow

If your home isn’t as cool as it should be, or if only part of your home is getting down to your desired temperature, there’s trouble brewing. Poor airflow can be a big issue especially during the hottest months of the year. If you’re only getting half of your home to your ideal temperature, the writing is on the wall – it’s time to call a professional, and do it ASAP! The longer your system is left in this state, the more potential there is for major and irreversible damage to be done to your air conditioner. A small problem can turn into a big one real quick – if you feel warm spots/rooms in your home, give us a call. It’ll save you from potentially having to replace your whole system!

Rising Utility Costs

When things are going wrong, you can always follow the money trail to the source – this rings true for your HVAC system! If your electric bills are trending upwards (more so than they normally would with the temperatures rising,) it’s very possible that your air conditioner is the guilty party. If your system isn’t running at full capacity, it’s going to be working harder than necessary with lackluster results. If your equipment is outdated, it may be your thermostat or another specific component that’s going out – but if it’s your system as a whole, it’s time to call the pros! If left alone, your system will continue to needlessly run up your utility bills while accumulating way more wear and tear than normal until a full system replacement is your only option. If your electric bill is shocking, do yourself a favor and give us a shout – your wallet will thank you.
